| I suggest
children's books
which are great for practicing basic Spanish skills. Many book
stores
(including Borders and Barnes & Noble) carry books and magazines in
Spanish. They may carry the Spanish children's books in a
separate
section from adult Spanish literature.
If you have a favorite book you can ask if the store can order you a Spanish version of it: many American books have been translated. My personal current favorites are the Harry Potter series. Comic books in Spanish are helpful as well. University bookstores are very helpful about ordering materials. There are Spanish newspapers and circulars published in most towns. I have found Amazon.com to be wonderful -and if I cannot find a title on the US site, I check out Amazon's UK site for books published in Spain. There are Spanish editions of Vogue, People, Reader's Digest, Time and bilingual magazines like Latina. While you won't understand all of it, you will be able to figure out content based on words you recognize, cognates (like, televisión, radio, el presidente) and accompanying illustrations and photographs. |
