Spanish  for  Law Enforcement Personnel

You are called to a scene and find frantic or frightened victims, and you can't understand what they need.  You are confronted with a dangerous, even armed, person, and you can't make yourself understood to even try to get the situation under control.  These frustrating and difficult situations that a law enforcement officer often faces today emphasize the need to communicate effectively in Spanish.  It is not possible nor practical to disregard the impact of the Hispanic community on the daily operations of law enforcement officers.  With this in mind, this three-part Spanish course is based on the precise needs of law enforcement officers to prepare them with the basic skills, knowledge and abilities to deal effectively and appropriately with members of the Hispanic community.
The Spanish for Law Enforcement Personnel course is designed to familiarize law enforcement officers with Spanish sounds, terminology (vocabulary), grammatical structures, and Hispanic cultural information so that they will be able to assess, investigate and respond to emergency and non-emergency situations.  Course participants will achieve a basic understanding of spoken and written Spanish (listening and reading comprehension), and different Hispanic cultures, focusing especially on situations relating to officer-citizen interaction.
